Who We Are
We are a small, diverse, and vibrant congregation made up of long-time members, newcomers to Canada, people living with housing and food insecurity challenges, young adults in school or early in their careers, families and single people. We are deeply committed to becoming faithful followers of Jesus through understanding and acting upon our role in God’s mission for our community of faith, the neighbourhood surrounding us, and the broader world.
Saint Luke’s United Church
Saint Luke’s United Church, the House of Friendship, is an Affirming Ministry, where all are welcome regardless of age, gender, race, ethnic origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, differing abilities, or economic circumstances.
Saint Luke’s United Church accepts as its mission the uniting of people into a caring Christian community reaching into the outer community and the world, in which all may express loyalty and devotion to God.
We will fulfill our mission by offering opportunity for worship and witness, study and service, friendship, rejuvenation and hope.
Our Role in God's Mission
We attempt to live out our role in God’s mission through:
- Biblically and spiritually grounded worship (hybrid online/in-person) led by our minister with a high level of lay involvement and an intentional focus on hospitality for newcomers;
- Caring for each other and deepening our relationships in activities on Sundays and throughout the week;
- Becoming aware of the needs in our neighbourhood and responding in various ways including:
A meal and clothing distribution program on Wednesdays and Sundays for people who are unhoused or underhoused and food-insecure;
Living into a Ministry with Newcomers whereby we seek discern and respond to
the needs of newcomers to Canada in our area
Hosting the Allan Gardens Daily Bread Food Bank on Thursdays and Fridays;
Hosting the African Centre for Refugees;
Collaborating with Regent Park Community Ministry;
Participating in community initiatives with other organizations in the area to enhance Allan Gardens as a welcoming place for all people in the neighbourhood;
We are the host for the Toronto Chapter of the International Coalition for Human Rights in the Philippines and several members of the group have become active members of our congregation.
